The event comprises of three races, the traditional ARC 24 and the ARC 12 adventure races and the ARC 8. The ARC 8 is a special non-kayaking version of the ARC 12 hour event and can be done without a support crew.

Coromandel Peninsula

Introduction

This will be the Tenth running of the ARC Adventure Race. This years event will be located somewhere on the Coromandel Peninsula !

This years race is limited to 100 teams or 300 competitors. There is a great discount for teams entering before 30th September 2010.

This years course will be a modified clover leaf design that will be designed around a central base with minimal travel for support crew. It is also possible to do all three races without a support crew.

The event comprises of three races, the traditional ARC 24 and the ARC 12 adventure races and the ARC 8. The ARC 8 is a special non-kayaking version of the ARC 12 hour event and can be done without a support crew.

This years events will have a special Service category for teams from the armed services, the police, fire brigades and paramedics.

ARC 24 Hour


The ARC 24 Hour has gained a reputation for being an honest 24 hour race and has occasionally taken teams a little longer! This year’s race is being designed so that all teams will finish between 18 and 26 hours. Our aim is to ensure that all teams will finish the course.

The emphasis is on strategy, navigation, good teamwork as well as physical fitness.
The race is open to teams of 4 or 2 , being mixed, mens or womens teams. The main category is the mixed team of 4.

The winners of the ARC 24 Hour (mixed team of 4) will receive a great prize which will include a free entry to defend their title in 2012. There will also be category and place prizes.

ARC 12 Hour

The ARC 12 Hour, in terms of numbers, is one of the most popular adventure races in the country. It consistently attracts over 30 teams.

The course takes in many aspects of the first half of the ARC 24 and this years course is designed to take competitors between 10 and 14 hours. It is an ideal race for new entrants to Adventure Racing or for teams who simply enjoy the shorter format of a 12 hour race. Our aim is to ensure that all teams will finish the course.

The race is open to teams of 4 or 2, with mixed, mens or womens teams. The main category is the mixed team of 4.

The race still takes competitors into the dark zone with teams finishing up till 9.00pm.

ARC 8 Hour

The ARC 8 is a special new non-kayaking Adventure Race. The race is open to teams of 2, 3 or 4 people with mixed, mens or womens teams. The race is a shorter version of the ARC 12 and excludes the kayaking section of the ARC 12 hour race which will be replaced with another discipline. The course is designed to encourage younger competitors and those taht are new to adventure race. It should take teams around 8 hours.

The race will take competitors into the dark zone with teams finishing up to 8.00pm.

 

The ARC Format

The ARC courses are made up of a larger number of stages designed to keep both the teams and support crews interested and focused on each stage. They are also designed to make teams think very carefully about the routes that they take. Each year we try and add a new innovation or two into the format and this year will be no exception.

o Sea kayaking - (Not ARC 8)

o Hill, Bush and River running / Trekking / Mountain Biking
o Navigation and Rifle Shooting
o Rope work
o Mystery Activities (high adrenaline factor)
