Trail Run
11km Trail Walk and Run
People of all abilities can participate in the 11km trail run & walk. The XTERRA Rotorua Festival is an event for people of all backgrounds that wish to enjoy an event set in some of the world's most stunning scenery. So it doesn't matter if you are a competitive walker or runner or looking at your first ever event. The 11km trail walk and run have something for everyone. The 11km event will start at the main beach of the Blue Lake and take competitors twice around the Blue Lake. The first lap starts by following Tarawera Road for 2.5 km to the far side of the Blue Lake where competitors will enter the forest at the lookout point parking lot. Competitors head into the forest for 1km then turn right to follow back along the backside of the Blue Lake for 2km and to the starting point, completing one lap. The second lap takes competitors along Tarawera Road again, but this time only for 500m, before turning right down the Blue Lake single track foreshore trail. At the end of this trail walkers arrive at the south end beach of the Blue Lake where they will climb the stairs up to the lookout point parking lot. From this point they head back into the forest for 1km following back along the side of the Blue Lake to the finish.
21 km Trail Walk and Run
People of all abilities can participate in the 21km trail Run and Walk. The XTERRA Rotorua Festival is an event for people of all backgrounds that wish to enjoy an event set in some of the world's most stunning scenery. So it doesn't matter if you are a competitive athlete or looking at your first ever event. The trail walk and run have something for everyone. The 21km trail event will start at the main beach of the Blue Lake and following Tarawera Road for 2.5 km to the far side of the Blue lake where walkers and runners will enter the forest at the lookout point parking lot. Competitors head into the forest for 1km then turn left down Lake Front Road for 4.45kms along the Green Lake. At the end of Lake Front Road they arrive at the Green Lake Picnic Area and the 1st of the water stations. Competitors then make a u-turn head back down Lake Front Road for 200m turning right into the Green Lake bottom Track and Green Lake Road. They then turn left into Lake Front Road again following beside the waters edge for 2.5km before turning right into Mossy Track and then Baja Trail. At the end of Baja Trail walkers and runners turn left back onto Lake Front Road then right back onto Green Lake Road to the Green Lake picnic area and the 2nd of the water stations. Stay on the road and head through the Picnic area for 300m and turn right into Jeff's Link Trail, then right into Tikitapu Road and back to the Blue Lake where walkers and runners will turn left to follow along the back side of the Blue lake and to the finish. The third aid station will be located on Tikitapu Road 3km from the finish.
29km Mountain Bike
This event is for mountain biking and general fitness athletes with some mountain bike experiance and is set in stunning forest scenery and on world class trails. The 29KM Mountain Bike is a mix of climbing, descents, single track and logging roads set in New Zealand's best mountain bike terrain.
Xterra Individuals
The XTERRA New Zealand Championships are the climax of the XTERRA Rotorua Festival. The event is for multisport, triathlon, mountain biking and general fitness athletes of all abilities. XTERRA is open to everyone, so it doesn't matter whether you are chasing qualifying spots for the XTERRA Maui World Championships or simply entering your first triathlon. The Rotorua course has been heralded as the best course in the world, so there has never been a better opportunity to have a go at the fastest growing multisport format in the world.
1km Swim
The XTERRA event starts on the main beach of the Blue Lake with a 1 lap(1000m) open water 1km swim. Xterra athletes run out of the water up to the the transition area where they change from swimmer to Mountain Biker.
29KM MTB
There is a mix of climbing, descents, single track and logging roads set in New Zealand's best mountain bike terrain.
11km Trail Run
The run follows Tarawera Road for 500m, before turning right down the Blue Lake single track foreshore trail. At the end of this trail runners arrive at the south end beach of the Blue lake where runners will climb the stairs up to the lookout point parking lot. From this point runners head back into the forest for 1km following back along the side of the Blue Lake to the completion of 1 lap. Runners cover the same course again for the 2nd lap.
The run course is a mixture of flat, small rolling hills and stairs. There is single and double track trail and open dirt road. Some of the single and double track trail is a bit more technical as it has some loose rock. These sections are not very long, but require extra attention. They are completely runable.
Pro athletes will not be eligible for age group awards and will only be able to qualify for Pro slots at the XTERRA World Championships in Maui, Hawaii. Pro Prize Money is equal for men and women and paid in NZ dollars. 1st-$2000.00, 2nd-$1200.00, 3rd-$800.00, 4th-$600.00 & 5th-$400.00
Xterra Teams
Team events offer you the chance to get your friends or workmates together and have a great weekend in the stunning outdoors of Rotorua. Teams can be made up of 2 or 3 people and can be all male, female or mixed. The Teams division starts 45 minutes after the individuals.
